Quotes that take a month and margins nobody knows for sure
For engineering and industrial companies. Quotes, purchasing, warehouse and project margin in the ERP, starting with what hurts most.
Common problems and what we do
- A quote takes weeks
- We map the process step by step in the ERP, with proposal templates, mandatory exclusions and revision history.
- Purchasing by phone and Excel
- Suppliers and prices per item, pending orders visible to everyone, and supplier invoices linked to the order.
- Stock in the system doesn't match the warehouse
- Goods in and out recorded in the ERP, with custom apps when codes need to be scanned on arrival.
- Project margin only counts hours
- Materials and expenses charged to the project, and alerts when costs go over budget.
A real case
At an engineering firm with fewer than 10 people, a quote takes a month. Before the company invested in the ERP, we audited it in read-only mode. We found that 1 in every 7 hours worked wasn’t counted in the cost of any project, so margins looked better than they were.
The plan started from what the system already has. The quote steps outside the ERP go from 13 to 3, and the goal is to reply within two weeks. We implement it in blocks, and the warehouse came first.
